Mo Rye

mo-ryeMSc, CTA, BA, PGCD, PGCE  UKCP Registered Psychotherapist

Hello, my name is Mo.  I have been seeing clients as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist since 2000, running a private practice in Birmingham and Worcestershire.  Repeated experience has shown me that when we are listened to and responded to within a psychological frame-work we can learn to resolve and overcome the difficulties and issues that arise throughout our lives.

Who do I work with?

I welcome working with people who want to free themselves up to live a fuller and more joyful life.  As a counsellor I work with people who need support in facing a current life-challenge or relationship problem.  As a Psychotherapist I work with people who experience repeated and unhealthy patterns in their life and are looking to unravel and change deep-seated habits.  In practice I find that people often want and need a combination of both.

What issues/symptoms do I work with?

Personal problems; problems in relationships and families; relationship breakdowns; communication difficulties; low self-esteem or confidence; unhappiness or confusion; dissatisfaction;  depression; loneliness; stress & anxiety; tiredness & fatigue; health issues; loss & bereavement; life transitions such as retirement, or changes in “identity” like career-change;  work-related problems (a particular specialism of mine); anger management; physical or sexual abuse; suicidal thoughts; fears; social inhibition; self-harm; etc

How would we work together?

It is very important that you find the right counsellor or therapist for you.

Our first session together lasts 30 minutes and is FREE.  It is designed to allow you to get a feel for whether we could work together and for us both to explore how we would proceed.

I will listen to you to help you clarify what you want and to understand your overall situation.  I will make recommendations about how we might work together based on my knowledge, experience and skills.  I will share knowledge so that you can make informed decisions for yourself throughout our work together.

It is important to me that you experience a non-judgemental and supportive therapeutic relationship.  I aim, therefore, to bring a sensitive and open-minded approach to our sessions so that you are able to speak freely and explore your thoughts and feelings without restraint.  Our aim together will be to understand, resolve and remove blockages to your happiness, peace of mind and well-being.

I use a number of creative tools and techniques that are in line with my original training in TA and NLP (see below). Since qualifying I have added other influences to the way I work, including Positive Psychology and Mindfulness practice.

I work to the ethical framework of my regulating body (UKCP) and under the guidance of my membership organisations UKATA and EATA.  I receive supervision from two professional groups which I regularly attend and am committed to my Continuing Professional Development.

Coaching and Workshops in Communication Skills

For the last 25 years I have run my own business as a communication specialist.  I continue to work as a professional coach and group facilitator with large companies like IBM, small start-ups, local Councils, NHS Trusts.  I run Emotional Intelligence forums and work with Junior Doctors and their Consultants to improve understanding and communication.  I have run workshops for literally thousands of individuals and am now offering these to small open groups.

Transactional Analysis (TA)

TA is a form of psychotherapy that helps you understand yourself and others and how you relate to each-other.  It does this using simple ideas and straight-forward language.  It is used widely in organisations, health and education because it is easy to grasp and remember. People use the models and diagrams to help express what they are experiencing internally and gain deeper awareness from which to make new healthy choices.

Neuro-Linguistic-Programming (NLP)

Don’t be put off by the title!  We know SO much more about how our brain works now than we did even 5 years ago.  NLP offers practical ways to use our minds more intelligently with a vast choice of creative processes for making changes.
