Dr Karen Carrington

karenMy name is Dr Karen Carrington. I’m a Chartered Psychologist, with a depth of experience – in psychology, in business and in life. I work with Private Individuals, Couples, and with Individuals and Groups in a Business Environment.

I’m an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and Accredited by EMDR UK and Ireland. I’m also registered with BUPA, PruHealth , Aviva and a number of other insurance providers and rehabilitation companies.

I’ve helped people resolve a wide range of problems – big and small – that had not just held them back from achieving their goals and fulfilling their potential, and being happy; but often caused considerable distress. Making the right changes can offer a solution to our problems; and psychological insights can help us in both our personal and professional relationships and activities.

I can help you to explore the changes you need to make, and discover how you can put these changes into action to lead a more satisfying life.

What is a Psychologist? Psychology is an academic and applied discipline that involves the scientific study of people, the mind, and behaviour. A Psychologist uses scientific research into human behaviour and applies that knowledge in real-world situations to help decipher and understand how people act, react and interact both as individuals and in groups (like workplaces, families, married couples, etc). Think of any question about how and why people do the things they do, and the chances are that a psychologist somewhere has researched it.

Why Do We Need Psychology? Many of the problems faced by the modern world are rooted in human behaviour, so psychological knowledge can help us to find solutions. There is increasing recognition that mental health has an impact on physical health, and that psychological insights can help us in both our personal and professional relationships and activities. Psychological work with individuals and groups has the potential to allow us all to lead more satisfying and productive lives.

Background: I’ve worked in the NHS but in recent years have been largely focused on my Private Practice, where I have worked with both Private Individuals and organisations such as the Home Office, West Midlands Police and of course the NHS.

I’m trained in a range of approaches, but am best described as an ‘integrative’ practitioner, i.e. I tailor my approach to fit the needs of individual clients, rather than trying to fit ‘square pegs into round holes’. I don’t have all the answers, but I do have a lot of information and experience that will help you find your answers. My fee per session is £80.
